India recorded 27,721 murder cases in 2023, a 2.8% decrease from 2022, according to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The NCRB report also revealed that the leading motives for murders in 2023 were “Disputes” with 9,209 cases, followed by “Personal Vendetta or Enmity” at 3,458 cases, and “Gain” with 1,890 cases.
